📢 A group of NYC elected leaders gathered in Lower Manhattan on Friday to voice support for state Attorney General Letitia James, who was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on mortgage fraud charges. Among those speaking outside the courthouse where James brought a civil suit against Trump in 2022 was Democratic mayoral candidate and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams. “This is not simply an attack on Attorney General Tish James, this is an attack on our city, and each one of us represents different parts of that same city and we speak with one voice today,” Mamdani said. Adams characterized the indictment as presidential lawlessness—retribution against James for successfully bringing the civil fraud case against Trump. “Felon 47, we saw you coming,” the City Council speaker said, “And we are here at the gate today to stand in front of our sister to let you know you will not win this battle.” Abbe Lowell, James’ lawyer, said James “flatly and forcefully denies these charges,” describing the case as one “driven by President Trump’s desire for revenge.” “We will fight these charges in every process allowed in the law,” Lowell said in a statement. 🎤 Juliet Papa reports 📸 Juliet Papa, John Meore/The Journal News/USA Today Network via Imagn, Sipa USA 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more local news
