Lawrence Avenue is one of Toronto’s most significant east–west thoroughfares, divided at Yonge Street into Lawrence Avenue East and Lawrence Avenue West. The road begins in Etobicoke at Royal York Road, extending from The Westway, and moves east through Humber Heights–Westmount before crossing the Humber River into Weston. From there, it enters North York, passing through neighbourhoods such as Amesbury, Maple Leaf, Glen Park, Lawrence Heights, and Lawrence Manor, where the street is lined with low-rise homes, retail, and offices. As it approaches Avenue Road, Lawrence Avenue becomes a key arterial in North Toronto, an affluent area with many single-family homes. The road is interrupted at Bayview Avenue by the Don River, requiring a detour via Post Road through The Bridle Path, another of Toronto’s wealthiest neighbourhoods. East of Leslie Street, Lawrence continues as a major arterial, running through Don Mills and connecting with the Don Valley Parkway. This section includes Old Lawrence Avenue, once home to a bridge across the Don River. In Scarborough, Lawrence widens into a six-lane road serving as a main east–west corridor. The street here is marked by strip malls, residential developments, and neighbourhoods such as Wexford, Bendale, Woburn, and West Hill. East of Morningside Avenue, the character shifts back to residential, eventually ending at Rouge Hill Drive near Rouge Beach Park and Lake Ontario.
