The Lamanite Curse of Dark Skin

The Lamanites in the Book of Mormon were cursed with a dark skin because their fathers / ancestors chose evil instead of good. I go through the pertinent passages in the Book of Mormon. I also go through many apostles and prophets statements talking about the curse and the low status of the Native American Indians. I also go through some of the apologetic arguments that these statements in the Book of Mormon have nothing to do with skin color or racism. I think if you carefully read the accounts in the Book of Mormon, and watch this video, you will be able to decide for yourselves fairly easily that the Lamanites really were cursed with a dark skin, that is, a pigmentation change. I also go through statements and scriptures that talk about dark skinned Lamanites becoming "white and delightsome" Nephites after they changed their evil ways. These teachings, of course, are racist but racism against the Native American Indians was very common in Joseph Smith's day and it is not surprising to see these teachings show up in the Book of Mormon. But it is disturbing that these teachings are still in the Mormons most holy book in 2020. Any child that starts to read the Book of Mormon could develop into a racist just as many apostles and prophets in the past have -- general authorities such as Mark E. Petersen, Spencer W. Kimball, Brigham Young, Joseph Fielding Smith and Bruce R. McConkie. I can see the church wanting to take the worst passages out some day or changing them but for now they are relying on the apologists to blind / confuse members who come across these startling teachings.
