In this episode, I put Gemini 2.0 Flash Lite to the test as an OCR solution for PDFs within a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system. Instead of using traditional document loaders in LangChain, I explore how Gemini can extract text more effectively, especially when dealing with complex layouts, including images. I walk through real-world examples, comparing Gemini’s output to existing PDF parsers, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of using an LLM-powered OCR for structured text extraction. Plus, I demonstrate how I integrate this approach into my benchmark system to evaluate its performance across different document types.
