Joshua 5 happens right after a miracle. God parts the Jordan River, and the entire nation of Israel crosses into the Promised Land. After 40 years of wandering, they’re finally where God promised they would be. This should be the moment they rush forward in victory. Instead, God tells them to stop. Before Israel fights Jericho, God goes after their hearts. Joshua 5 shows us that spiritual breakthrough always begins with personal surrender. This chapter may feel uncomfortable—because it introduces circumcision—but that discomfort is the point. Before God can use His people powerfully, He must deal with what’s happening internally. Circumcision was the covenant sign that marked Israel as God’s people. It wasn’t convenient. It wasn’t comfortable. And on the eve of battle, when Joshua circumcised the men, it left Israel weak and exposed. Why would God do this? Because He refuses to let His people confuse strength with surrender. ⚔️ Consecration comes before conquest. God weakens His warriors so they stop trusting in themselves and start trusting in Him. Victory wouldn’t come because Israel was strong—it would come because God is FAITHFUL. And that same truth applies to us today. Some of you are praying, “God, make me strong.” But what if God is saying, “I don’t need you to be strong—I need you to be surrendered”? As Paul said, “When I am weak, then I am strong.” The New Testament helps us understand this moment even more clearly. Romans 2:29 says that circumcision is now a matter of the heart, done by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit cuts away what is sinful, stubborn, and self-reliant so we can experience real freedom—not just forgiven lives, but transformed ones. Watch this message from Pastor Tim Lucas and discover that the Spirit of God doesn’t just want to forgive you. He wants to free you. #Joshua #Circumcision #LiquidChurch
