This week we explore and discuss Omaio Gardens. Omaio is a coastal garden situated by the water's edge. It is a garden of international significance with a six-star rating. It has been created by Liz Morrow who opens it up to the public by appointment only, and an admission charge applies. The garden is a blend of natives and exotics and also features some of the best preserved natural native forests I have seen. Omaio means Peace, Quiet and Tranquillity. The garden features some unique and interesting sculptures and has many wonderful combinations of plants. The lawn is gently sloping and lends itself to the gentle curves of the planting borders. There are opportunities to sit and admire the ocean views, and the natural plantings. The property sits on approximately 18 acres and is in an idyllic location that does not receive frosts. Omaio Gardens is worth a visit if you are in the Auckland area. It is a pleasurable garden to walk around with many tips and design ideas to learn from.
