Histologically, they show cellular proliferation and atypia beyond benign tumors but lack the definitive stromal invasion characteristic of invasive carcinoma. Borderline Ovarian Tumors generally have a much better prognosis than invasive epithelial ovarian cancer, particularly when confined to the ovary. They often occur in younger women. Management can be complex: while surgical staging is important, fertility-sparing surgery is frequently an option. Some Borderline Ovarian Tumors (especially those with "invasive implants") can recur or progress, necessitating long-term follow-up.
