Feijoa Growing Tips and 1 Year Update - (Pineapple Guava)

Today I'll be showing you our feijoa hedge that we planted a year ago and talking about how I've been growing them. I'll also be sharing some helpful tips about how to grow feijoas. These delicious, hardy fruit are also known as pinapple guava, or guavasteen and are native to the highlands of southern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, Uruguay, northern Argentina, and Colombia in South America. They are a hardy fruit tree or shrub that can handle temperatures as low as -10c (14 F) and can be grown in a range of climates. They grow very easily here in New Zealand and will even grow and fruit with little care. In the video I answer questions like, should you remove feijoas the first year after planting them, should you mulch feijoas, can you grow feijoas in the wind, tasting feijoa fruit, should I plant more than one feijoa tree and I'll cover some considerations when planting different feijoa varieties. Feijoa (Acca sellowiana) are a fruit that ripen in autumn and can be grown as a hedge, tree, bush or shrub and provide many nutritious fruit high in vitamin C with juicy edible flesh - and even the skin is edible. They get pollinated by birds so pruning them not too densly works best to allow birds to move between the branches.
