This is my day trip to Nara (奈良市), Japan. Nowadays, Nara is a relatively small city or town but it used to be the capital of Japan from 710 to 794. Nara is particularly famous for the deer that roam freely through the town, especially in Nara Park. Deer are regarded here as heavenly animals, protecting the town and the country. There are two temples one should definitely see when visiting Nara - Kofuku-ji (興福寺) temple with the five-story pagoda and Todai-ji temple (東大寺) with the giant Buddha statue. The pagoda of the Kofuku-ji temple is the second tallest in Japan and symbol of the city. Today-ji is a Buddhist temple complex. The Daibutsu of Todai-ji is the largest Buddha statue in Japan. It is 16,2 meters tall and weighs 500 tons. Daibutsuden or the Great Buddha Hall is supposedly the largest wooden building in the world. #Nara #Japan
