If you're new to gardening, especially veggie gardening, you may be shocked to find out just how destructive some garden pests are, with the white butterflies of spring heralding certain destruction, if you don't take steps to safeguard your crops. I've been keeping an eye on my vegetable patch, but in two days, many plants were decimated by these green caterpillars. I'd even forgotten to plant my sacrificial crop of radishes, which attract them like crazy and make for easier treatment. I had to grab out the BT nematodes for this job, which meant mixing up a watering can and treating essentially every bed in the garden. The good news is, this is highly successful, and shouldn't harm beneficial insects from what I know. This does mean purchasing a product to manage these pests, but in my experience (of two Springs tackling them) it's well worth it.
