For the first time ever on the channel, I finally own a hot tent and stove — so there was only one place worthy of the first proper test… Galloway Forest Park, overlooking the stunning Loch Doon. It was 1°C when I pulled into the car park, ice on the ground, a ferocious stream running nearby, and bags on bags on bags to haul in. Hot tent camping definitely isn’t lightweight… but what it lacks in portability, it makes up for in comfort. In this one: •First ever proper hot tent setup in the wild •Learning the hard way (didn’t pre-burn the stove 😅) •Carbon monoxide safety sorted •Windy 35mph gusts through the night •Caramelised onion double smash burger cooked on the stove •A blustery but surprisingly cosy night’s sleep •Morning brew with frozen fingers •A mooch around historic Loch Doon Castle (built in the 1200s) •Snow flurries, icy single-track roads & proper Scottish vibes •The tent (Pomoly X-Dome 4 Pro) and stove were sent out to test and I wanted to give it a fair, honest first run. It’s big, heavy, takes time to pitch… but sitting inside with the stove glowing while it’s freezing outside? Different level. •Also… that burger? 9.5/10. Would demolish again.
