In its day this OO model was a revelation in terms of detail and fine running compared for example to its peers the Hornby J83 or Lima J50 -I can still see the glossy Mainline catalogue in my mind! My original model suffered a broken chimney on the school railway and was sold to a class mate - I recently picked up another version to find the intervening years have not been kind. The axles are joined by plastic joints which are prone to splitting and reducing or stopping traction. Peter's Spares offered some replacement parts so I took a chance to see if we could get this 1980's classic back on track! Undo the bottom screws to release the wheel set - split apart the 2 halves and remove the split joints. Replace with the new ones and line up wheels and coupling rods. Check the gauge is set correctly and give it a run!
