Chapters: Van 0:00 Siirt 4:22 VAN The eastern part of Turkey, Kurdistan, is not a typical tourist destination, however it has much to offer. So let’s explore Van, one of the biggest cities in the east of Turkey. In there, the main attraction, not just for tourists, but also locals, is Van Kalesi – the Van castle. Exploring this castle built in the 8th century before Christ was unique and amazing experience. The history in this place has kept its atmosphere till this day and historical landmarks were everywhere around me. Like the Xerxes the first inscription., 20 meters above the ground. This comes from the 5th-century BC and its written in Old Persian, Elamite and Babylonian. At every corner I saw new and new places, which I had to check out. Van Kalesi took me much longer to explore than I expected. In comparison with European sights, this experience was totally different. No thousands of people, no standing lines, no fee (if you won’t go through the main gate). And mainly the sites were not reconstructed, “nogo zones” were nonpresent, no modern glass show-cases, no new plaster – the Van castle kept the atmosphere of antiquity. I felt safe the whole time. The locals were really friendly and hospitable – I met one Turkish guy who paid everything for me – entrance fee for museum, lunch, stuff in supermarket and even took me to my hotel with his car. I spend the last moment in the castle watching the sunset, the view was spectacular and I finished the day with delicious baklava. AKDAMAR After Van castle, I went to see famous Akdamar Island, which is about 40 minutes by bus from the city. The island lies in the Van lake – the biggest Turkish lake And The only way how to get there is by a ferry. If I remember right, one way is 25 tr lira. Yes, it is also possible to swim in the Van Lake. Then, there was another entrance fee was for 35 tr lira. Without that, the prices in this part of Turkey were so cheap. The Armenian church was built more than 1 thousand years ago, and also like with the Van Castle, history is everywhere around you. SIIRT The final stop of my trip around Turkey was Siirt (map). This city is famous for its pistacious, great food and the nicest touristic attraction is definitely the Botan river. music: Raspberrymusic    / raspberrymusic   #kurdistan #van #siirt #turkey #vlog #travel
