Education Risks for Children Over 12 Moving to Germany Many families moving to Germany do not realize how difficult it can be for a child aged 12 or 13 or older to enter the German education system. The biggest challenge is the German language. German schools expect children to understand and speak German very quickly after enrollment. In many cases, children who arrive at this age are first placed in Hauptschule or in special language-learning classes. If a child is unable to develop strong German language skills during their time in Hauptschule, continuing further education becomes very difficult. To move on to Realschule, a good command of the German language is essential. Subjects at this level are more challenging and include written examinations. If the school believes the child’s German is weak, they may not allow progression to Realschule—even if the child is academically capable. As a result, many students are directed straight toward Ausbildung (vocational training). Ausbildung itself is not a bad option, but if it is pursued with only a Hauptschule certificate, access to better fields becomes limited and long-term opportunities are reduced. For this reason, experts advise that children should complete their basic and lower secondary education in the country where the family is currently residing. For example, completing ESO in Spain (up to ESO 4) provides a strong educational foundation. Later, when the child moves to Germany, this certificate can be officially recognized and converted according to the German education system. It is generally considered equivalent to Realschule, opening doors to better Ausbildung programs, further education, and stronger career prospects. In conclusion, proper educational planning before moving to Germany is extremely important. If a child is older than 12 or 13, it is often better to complete their basic education first and then move to Germany, ensuring a more secure and opportunity-rich future #europevisa #arraigolaboral #europetrc #germany #immigration #irfanbhaieuwalay #legalstatus #spainimmigrants #spanishcitizenship
