A playthrough of Romstar's 1992 NES game, Cowboy Kids. This stupidly rare, expensive NES cart is among the best to be released in the system's decline. It's an action-adventure that takes place in the old west, placing you in the shoes of a newly-appointed sheriff who goes, one-man army style, through enemy strongholds, native villages, and cutesy villages, thoughtlessly slaughtering everyone that crosses your path. It's got an excellent sense of humor, and the number of houses you can visit and the NPC dialogues give this game some real teeth, just as it really gets a nice bump in replay value from the Mega Man-style stage select (though you'll instantly screw yourself if you don't go to the levels with guns in them first). The thing that struck me the most about the whole affair was how much this felt like one of Konami's Goemon games. The perspective is identical, the graphic style carries the same bizarre sense of humor (the people's faces are hilarious when you shoot/stab them), and the controls are a near perfect replication. These similarities are hardly bad things though - Goemon 2 was an extremely good NES game, and we never received it in the US, so this game's "remix" feel doesn't ever really work against it at all. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
