U-M Medical School: Interprofessional Clinical Experience (ICE)

The Interprofessional Clinical Experience offers first-year students at the University of Michigan Medical School a unique introduction to clinical work. Students shadow health care professionals, including nurses, social workers and physical therapists, in various clinical settings throughout the year. Students learn not only about their roles as future physicians but are also exposed to the perspectives of other professionals and how they function. The goal is to cultivate an appreciation of their future teammates, foster better communication and ultimately provide the best care for their future patients. These on-site experiences turn out to be valuable in ways beyond what the students initially expect.
