How to Inoculate Grain Spawn with Spore Syringe

The first and most important step in mushroom cultivation is the grain spawn inoculation. The key is keep your environment as clean and sanitary as possible to limit exposure to any outside bacteria. For this, you'll need: -sealed bag of grain spawn -spore syringe (liquid culture) -hypodermic needle -latex gloves -rubbing alcohol -bandaid -lighter/torch -After putting on your latex gloves, gently shake your syringe to break up any sediment that might have formed inside. -Remove the cap to your syringe, before fastening your hypodermic needle to the top. (NOTE: If your needle isn't brand new and in sterile packaging, use your lighter to sterilize the length of your old needle.) -When injecting your bag, be sure to rotate your syringe, while depressing the plunger, so the liquid culture covers as much surface area as possible. -Upon removing your needle, you'll notice a slight tear in the bag -- cover the injection site with a bandaid to limit exposure to outside bacteria. -With your bag inoculated, return to its box and seal it back up.
