• willie-whistleblower Johann Friedrich Reichardt's cheerful "Vivace Scherzando" in a version for flute ensemble. (With parental consents). Reichardt (1752 -1814) had a musical background and, with Kant's encouragement he studied jurisprudence and philosophy for 2 years but chose to stay with music. In 1775 he became Kapellmeister to Friedrich II, leaving soon after to marry the composer Benda's daughter. In the 1780's he met Gluck and became a friend of Goethe and Schiller. Like Beethoven, he espoused the French Revolution, (and lost his German job) later becaming disenchanted with Napoleon (and losing his French house). His reputation rests on his 1500 Lieder, many with settings to Goethe's texts, and the collection of poems "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" is dedicated to Reichardt. Franz Schubert was influenced by a number of his songs. After experiencing the music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, he became receptive to the Viennese Classic, though not in time to join their number. He died alone, from a gastric illness.
