The 2019 Annual International Law and Religion Symposium focuses a light on persecution, with a particular emphasis on how implementing the concepts of human dignity and religious freedom can help prevent and respond to persecution worldwide. The 26th Annual International Law and Religion Symposium was held in Provo, Utah on 6-8 October 2019. In this October 8 plenary session, Roger Finke discusses data on religious persecution throughout the world. Jónatas Machado analyzes several political theories as they relate to religious freedom and explains gaps between constitutionally-enshrined religious freedom promises and their implementation. Andrew Teal presents historical examples of religious persecution and explains religious observers’ vulnerability.
