(30 Nov 2016) On the third anniversary of violent anti-government protests in Ukraine, a married couple who met during the protests has spoken about their hopes for the future. Olesya Koval was injured during clashes with police in Kiev's main square - also known as the Maidan. Olexander Lytvyn helped Olesya get to hospital and supported her recovery. They are now married and have a son together. "Maidan gave birth to our family. But unfortunately, despite many good events, so many bad and sad things have happened that we couldn't enjoy our relationship in full," said Olesya. Olexander, who was a state employee before the revolution, went to fight to the east as a volunteer in 2014. When he came back they married. Instead of having a wedding, Olesya and Olexander donated all the money to help Ukrainian soldiers on the front line. The family is not completely satisfied with the current situation in Ukraine, but looks to the future with optimism. "In my opinion, the fact that nothing much has changed over the past three years is probably not so good. However changes are happening and we are moving in the right direction," says Olexander, who is now a member of the anti-corruption action center team. Olesya is on maternity leave. She said the revolution was worth it at least for her son, so that he can live in a better country.
