#plankdulcimerchallenge deadline extended to January 31, 2026 Several people.mentioned that the 10 day time frame was not sufficient for busy people. I agree, but this was my first challenge. So there is still plenty of time if you want to enter. In Part 2 of the Plank Dulcimer Build I am confronted by the challenge of using a new tool and the ruin of two pieces of material before getting the router dialed in. So this learning experience may save you some time and frustration. I do successfully route the chamber in the back of the instrument and layout the critical measurements. After I cut out the headstock on the bandsaw I also cut the fretboard and start designing the bridge and nut. Contest Rules 1. Your completed dulcimer must be no larger than 1x4x24 (inches) Your dulcimer can be made of any wood you choose. I am building my prototype from pine, but my contest entry will not be. 2. Your dulcimer must have: 3 strings A fretboard A nut A bridge A tailpiece It must be fretted and tuned The finish is up to you, as beautiful or eccentric as you choose. 3. Your dulcimer may be a solid body, a hollow body or a chambered body. 4. It must be an acoustic instrument, NO ELECTRONICS. 5 You may use commercial strings, but you must make your tuning pegs. Either carved, or other random hardware, no machine heads. Comment your channel name and #SFplankchallenge to enter Video Reveals must show your completed plank dulcimer, strum a few times so we can hear it or learn a tune and play it. Any pics or video of construction is great. Entries must be received no later than January 16, 2026 at 11:59 pm for your time zone.
