Video of our Nov-2017 self-drive trip to Lugu Lake (泸沽湖) in southwest China. (For the detailed list (and location) of all the scenic sites in Lugu Lake, refer to our blog: https://goo.gl/QGtqWW) Lugu Lake is located in a mountainous region which is about 200km from Lijiang City (丽江市). It is an alpine lake famed for its spectacular scenery and is home to the Mosuo minority ethnic group. Adminitstratively, Lugu Lake sits on the border between Yunnan (云南) and Sichuan (四川) Province. With 2/3 of it in Yunnan and 1/3 in Sichuan. Lugu Lake sits at an elevation of 2685m, making it the highest lake in Yunnan Province. Ringed by mountains on all sides, the panoramic lake has 4 peninsulas, 5 islands, 14 bays and an impressive 17 beaches. The lake has long been home to the local Mosuo people, whom are widely recognised to be the last matriarchal society in the world. Thus, Lugu Lake is also commonly refered to as “The Kingdom of Women”, “Home of the Matriarchal Tribe” and “Women’s World”.
