More Dr. Ali Ataie: http://mcceastbay.org/ali-ataie Talks & Sermons on Salah: http://mcceastbay.org/salah Dr. Ali Ataie gives practical and spiritual insights about the first and last description that is given in the Qur'an about the people of Al-Firdaws (highest station of paradise) is their relationship with their salah (prayer). Sometimes our daily ritual prayer (salah) becomes purely mechanical and a cardiovascular workout. Salah reinforces one's heart, mind, and body. God has given us the gift of communicating with Him every single day, five times a day, for a profound spiritual enrichment. Worshiping Allah strengthens our ability to fight off the emptiness feel in this worldly life. The aim of this workshop is to imbue the worshipper with utter love and reverence of the salah. This talk was delivered via Muslim Student Association at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on June 2, 2013. Talks & Sermons on Salah: http://mcceastbay.org/salah Salah (Arabic: صَلاة, plural salawat, also known as namāz (Persian: نماز) and also spelled salat, are prayers performed by Muslims. Facing the qibla, the direction of the Kaaba with respect to those praying, Muslims pray first standing and later kneeling or sitting on the ground, reciting prescribed prayers and phrases from the Quran as they bow and prostrate themselves in between. Salah is composed of prescribed repetitive cycles of bows and prostrations, called rakat (sing. rak'ah). The number of rak'ahs, also known as units of prayer, varies from prayer to prayer. Ritual purity and wudu are prerequisites for performing the prayers. The daily obligatory prayers collectively form the second of the five pillars in Islam, observed five times every day at prescribed times. These are Fajr (observed at dawn), Zuhr (observed at noon), Asr (observed late in the afternoon), Maghrib (observed after sunset), and Isha (observed at dusk). Salah can be performed either in solitude, or collectively (known as jama'ah). When performed in jama'ah, worshippers line up in parallel rows behind a leader, known as the imam. Special prayers are exclusively performed in congregation, such as the Friday prayer and the Eid prayers, and are coupled with two sermons each, delivered by the imam.
