GOVERNMENT CONCERNED WITH NEGATIVE POLITICAL ACTIVITIES The Government is very concerned with what it views as deliberate raising of political temperatures that breed division and intolerance. In the last few weeks, Kenya has been bombarded with political accusations and counter-accusations that are creating tension and polarizing Kenyans. This has to end to ensure that Kenya remains a united and progressive nation. Of great concern is a systematic campaign using media to sow seeds of discord. The Government wishes to alert Kenyans that the techniques that divided Kenya into tribal and hatred lines starting from the 2005 referendum elections to the terrible post-election violence are being employed again. These techniques which contributed in a large part to the death of mothers, children, fathers and youth in the 2008 post election are systematic and use political statements, media stories and opinion pieces as part of their implementation processes are operational. The Government calls on media editors and owners to be more alert so that their mediums are not used by columnists who are part of an agenda to divide and destroy our country. Freedom of expression is vital and should be protected and nurtured. However, we should not give space to rhetoric and writing that will be fertilizer or oil that will lead to the death of Kenyans and division of our country.
