Presently, we strive to express our own unique personality, the personality of Burgundy style, which is what we have been striving to present in the past, present, and will continue to do so in the future. Therefore, we don't want to be compared with Champagne, nor do we want to replicate the style of Champagne," said Marcel Combes, former sparkling wine manager of Louis Bouillot. The most classic and famous traditional method sparkling wine in the world belongs to France. One represents sophistication—none other than French Champagne. The other represents vitality—focusing on French Crémant. While both contenders have contributed to the traditional method sparkling wine category, they can easily be distinguished from each other when compared. Of course, the reputation and status of Champagne are unquestionable.The other, however, is even less understood by many. But precisely because it speaks from its origins, it needs no words—data speaks for itself. In 2023, the number of Crémant bottles sold in French supermarkets and hypermarkets nearly equalled that of Champagne, with Crémant's sales reaching 29.6 million bottles, and Champagne sales at 29.7 million bottles. This trend has continued into 2024, with Crémant sales increasing while Champagne sales decline. The popularity of Crémants may perplex some. How can a wine often regarded as a Champagne alternative, with stereotypes like inability to age, achieve such figures? Today's episode of "Wine Lee Go," part of the Burgunlee French lifestyle wine study documentary series, will delve into the world of top-quality sparkling wines beyond Champagne—Crémants. Taking the renowned Louis Bouillot as an example, we will explore the stories behind it.
