On a foggy and cloudy day, as usual we started off early in the morning. First stop, the lake side small city Zug. It was on our list in the beginning but was added at the last minute since it was on our way to Zürich. Trying to find parking close to Aussichtspunkt Guggi, we ended up parking at visitor parking area of an apartment building thanks to warm-hearted lady who was resident of the building. Visibility was poor due to fog but the fresh air, and encounters with the early morning dog walkers were good enough of rewards. Next, we drove down to town centre and went inside of Katholische Kirchgemeinde Zug, surprisingly beautiful inside, contrary to somewhat mundane exterior. We tried to go up the Zytturm Zug, old clock tower but couldn't figure out how to get the QR code working. Lots of photos taken around the tower and also this pretty fountain called Kolinbrunnen. Pretty Altstadt and also refreshing lake side promenade was enough excuse to come visit this small city. Next stop, Zürich. Our hotel was 20 min train ride away from Zürich HB where Christmas market was in its full bloom. Lots of shops and people. We tried traditional Zurich fried apples, Züricher Öpfelchüechli. Expensive but worth a try. Went inside of Landesmuseum, close to train station to see what's in there. And then started walking around river side taking in pretty old buildings to get to Lindenhof where you get the bird-eye view of the city. The biggest city in the Swiss Confederation but small enough to glance whole city view from short scanning. Walking down toward west side of the Lindenhof, you'll come across this pretty street, Augustinergasse with lots of small and old shops filling small street with grandeur presence that gives you solid proof that you're in Swiss. In no time you'll find yourself standing in most iconic street in the biggest city, Bahnhofstrasse. Shops and boutiques abundant. Rich people busy shopping for Christmas. Exotic Swiss made watches luring people in for big splurge but I managed to stay calm enjoying people watching and window kissing just to admire the beauty from the distance. Tiny decorations on modern building walls are amusing and it's guaranteed you can spend whole day walking and shopping here on this street. Now time for church tour. St. Peter. Standing tall with big clock tower looking down on you asking you to come inside. Mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Not extraordinary but very Swiss like simple church. Passing by Stüssibrunnen, small fountain with dominant medieval knight statue and now we see uphill battle to get to Universität Zürich. And short visit to Predigerkirche, very old small church right beside the library, Zentralbibliothek Zürich. Upon entering Universität Zürich, you are rewarded with commanding view of the city from the open terrasse. We spent some quality time at the museum called Naturhistorisches Museum der Universität Zürich, whose quality of exhibits is at least at par with well-known natural history museums around the world in my opinion. Lifelike animals, birds, African predators, polar bears, already extinct rarities, snakes, mammoth, you name it, and all of them are so real you may feel like you are on a real tour in a closed cabin. Next we liked to try Café Bar ODEON but for some reason we changed our mind upon seeing the place. Saw Kartoffelmarkt on our way there and eventually we went to Christmas market right beside Zurich Opera House, Opernhaus Zürich. Getting dark already so it's time to wrap up. Walking on Bahnhofstrasse at night was delightful with shops and street cables decorated brightly for the season. Again we were afraid of the Swiss restaurants price tag so opted for Coop dinner. #travel #walking #christmas #switzerland #zug #zurich #dji #djiaction4
