The film features Trailways Flxible VL-100 Vista-Liner buses. Introduced in 1954, The VistaLiner (VL) 100 was Flxible’s answer to General Motors then new PD 4501 “Scenicruiser”. (The VistaLiner was also a “deck and a half” split-level design, with eight seats on the lower level, and thirty-one in the upper rear portion.) The film focuses especially on Yellowstone National Park, which spans parts of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. Continental Trailways originated in 1936 with coast-to-coast service as the National Trailways Bus System. Unlike the more dominant Greyhound Lines, NTBS was formed from smaller independent operators, and became an enduring competitor to Greyhound while remaining an association of almost 100 separate companies. 0:00-0:39 - Introduction to Yellowstone National Park. 0:39-1:06 - Description of its location in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. 1:06-1:26 - History of Yellowstone, starting with John Colter's exploration. 1:26-1:48 - Native American legends about Yellowstone. 1:48-2:07 - Colter's reports and public disbelief. 2:07-2:23 - Washburn Expedition's exploration and Yellowstone becoming a national park. 2:23-2:43 - Modern-day popularity and tourism at Yellowstone. 2:43-3:18 - Geological history involving volcanoes and glaciers. 3:18-3:53 - Yellowstone's water features, including Yellowstone Lake. 3:53-4:19 - Grand Loop Highway and its scenic views. 4:19-4:34 - Thermal features like mud volcanoes and geysers. 4:34-5:09 - Yellowstone River and its waterfalls. 5:09-5:43 - The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. 5:43-6:06 - Activities offered at park hotels. 6:06-6:24 - Buffalo hunt tours. 6:24-6:50 - Observing buffalo herds. 6:50-7:07 - Continuing the tour to Mammoth Hot Springs. 7:07-7:39 - Mammoth Hot Springs' features and history. 7:39-8:05 - Geological formations like Liberty Cap. 8:05-8:27 - The Hudo formations and Golden Gate. 8:27-8:47 - Roaring Mountain and lemonade-like pools. 8:47-9:02 - Norris Geyser Basin and its steaming features. 9:02-9:27 - Gibbon Falls and Firehole River. 9:27-9:58 - Wildlife, including elk sightings. 10:01-10:10 - Mention of the weight of the bison in geyser basins. 10:10-10:18 - Description of strange and delightful sites between Madison Junction and Old Faithful. 10:18-10:32 - Description of Morning Glory Pool. 10:32-10:47 - Description of Sapphire Pool and biscuit Basin. 10:47-11:01 - Minute plants thriving in the scalding waters. 11:01-11:20 - Boiling springs and their varying behaviors. 11:20-11:29 - Comparison of geysers to hot water volcanoes. 11:29-11:48 - Geyser regions in the world, with Yellowstone being the most spectacular. 11:48-12:33 - Explanation of how geysers work and their varying behaviors. 12:33-13:00 - Predictable geysers like Castle, Riverside, and Daisy. 13:00-13:37 - Description of Old Faithful and its characteristics. 13:37-14:00 - Old Faithful Resort Village and facilities. 14:00-14:42 - Historical significance and inspiration of Old Faithful. 14:42-15:01 - Introduction to Grand Teton National Park and its mountain grandeur. 15:01-15:33 - Mount Moran and Cathedral Group. 15:33-15:42 - Description of Grand Teton Mountain. 15:42-16:07 - Modern highways providing access while preserving wilderness. 16:07-16:33 - Experiencing the mountains intimately, including Jenny Lake. 16:33-16:46 - The Inner Mountain Trails. 16:46-17:06 - Jackson Hole's history. 17:06-17:35 - Recreation of an authentic Indian village and its cultural significance. 17:35-18:00 - Jackson Hole's wildlife and largest elk herd. 18:00-18:21 - Historic Menors Ferry district 18:21-18:36 - Visit to the Church of the Transfiguration at Moose. 18:36-18:53 - Modern development preserving Jackson Hole's legacy. 18:53-19:21 - Activities in Jackson's Old West atmosphere. 19:21-19:56 - Sense of reverence and adventure 19:56-19:56 - Ease of travel by bus to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
