At one point, her pain was so debilitating she was unable to stand or walk and missed a month of work. Diagnosed with a disc herniation between the L5 and S1 vertebrae in her spine, Kristy’s course of treatment provided some relief but only for short periods of time. Kristy's primary care physician referred her to Mary Free Bed’s Spine Center outpatient location near her home in Holland. Dr. Carolyn Vollmer, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who specializes in musculoskeletal and spine conditions, and physical therapist Mike Phillips worked with Kristy to develop a rehabilitation plan.
