Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 - Lens Test Review

This is the Rokinon / Samyang / Bower / Vivitar / Pro Optic 14mm 2.8 wide angle lens. This video is done on my Canon T2i (550d). However, this lens also works on full frame! This means it is capable of producing an extremely wide angle. On a crop body like my T2i it's not quite so wide. The fast aperture means its great for low light. It's tough to find a very wide and fast lens and this fits the bill. It has amazing sharpness all over as well. Unfortunately this lens exhibits an extreme amount of distortion as seen in the video. This will likely be exacerbated on a full frame camera like a 5d or 6d where the viewing angle will be even wider. Not good for shooting architecture. In the video I have also compared its low light capability with the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5/6. As you can see, the Rokinon can gather significantly more light than the Sigma at the same focal length. So if you're shooting at night or in low light, I'd look into the Rokinon. This lens is a bargain. I picked up a used copy for $300 and they can be found for even less. They also make this lens for Nikon, Sony, Pentax and Olympus.
