The National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) has commissioned seven CT scanners and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, along with related accessories, across seven public hospitals in Zambia. The medical equipment, valued at over 224 million kwacha, has been installed at: Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital University Teaching Hospital Ndola Teaching Hospital Arthur Davison Children's Hospital Kitwe Teaching Hospital Solwezi General Hospital Livingstone Teaching Hospital Speaking at the launch, Health Minister Elijah Muchima said the equipment will significantly reduce NHIMA’s financial burden of referring patients to private institutions for diagnostic services. He emphasized that every Zambian deserves access to quality healthcare without financial barriers. NHIMA Director General Michael Njapau stated that the institution is investing in resources that genuinely meet the needs of the population. He also noted that the equipment was procured without donor assistance and is intended to complement government efforts to improve healthcare access nationwide. Presidential Advisor on Health Professor Roma Chilengi remarked that CT scanners and MRI machines are no longer luxury items—they are essential diagnostic tools that every citizen should have the right to access. Copperbelt Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna called on recipient hospitals to manage the equipment responsibly and ensure its longevity. #NHIMA
