On the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend I had the chance to visit Ipswich Station to see what was about. As a bridge was undergoing repairs all weekend on the Great Eastern Main Line between Norwich and Haughley Junction all mainline trains that would have run to and from Norwich were terminating at Ipswich. They connected with road coaches shuttling between Norwich and Ipswich and some of them called at Stowmarket and Diss en route. Stowmarket was served by the diesel units working between Ipswich and Cambridge/Peterborough. Shortly after I arrived it became apparent that as a result of some Mk3 sets being stuck at Norwich as a result of the bridge repairs, some Intercity diagrams were being operated by pairs of Class 321 units. However over the afternoon three Mk3 sets turned up and one of them had the hire in loco 90 034 on it. Two container trains both bound for Felixstowe came through the station on the centre track and both were hauled by Freightliner Class 66 diesel locomotives plus there was a few locos stabled in the sidings alongside platform 4. Overall it had been a fantastic day and I hope you enjoy watching the action.
