Gibson London: The Power of Immaculate Style - Simply Handsome 247 Simply Handsome 247: Who is Simon Parr? Simon Parr (Gibson London): I’ve always been into fashion, that started early on because my father had a shop in Cambridge. I was introduced to fashion through him. He was always immaculately dressed, I’ll watch him early in the morning doing the windsor knot in his tie. I remember him cutting the lawn in a shirt and tie, he was always smartly dressed. In school we had to wear blazers and ties, then I got into the Mod sense of fashion when I was sixteen years old. It has always been fashion for me and I think we all have to wear clothes, why not wear nice clothes?, and don’t be frightened to look simply handsome. Simply Handsome 247: Why did you decide to get into fashion? Simon Parr (Gibson London): I never had a plan to go into fashion. I was good at art at school, so I was going to be a graphics designer and when I left school I went into window dressing. I went to college, worked at John Lewis as a display artist, did that for a while then I went into the retail side and then fashion. I sought of fell into it, I certainly didn’t have a plan, but obviously with my dad having the shop it was at the back of my mind. Simply Handsome 247: Why is the power of dress important? Simon Parr (Gibson London): I think it gives you confidence; certainly when you put a suit on- you look smart and looks like your going to do business. When your going to work, you wake up put your suit on, tied your tie- your ready for the day and at the weekend you can relax. When you go to the gym you wear a track-suit, there are certain clothes that do certain jobs and put you in a certain frame of mind. Simply Handsome 247: How important is confidence? Simon Parr (Gibson London): I think people can be a bit worried about what they wear, because of what others might say and think… I’ve made mistakes in the past. I’ve worn some hideous clothes, sometimes you get it right and sometimes you get it wrong, but have a go and don’t be frightened. Simply Handsome 247: How did your father’s style influence you? Simon Parr (Gibson London): My father’s style influenced me by giving me a lot of confidence, because I could see he was dressing smartly everyday. I followed in his foot steps. The people that he hug around with were dressed when they went to dinner, weddings and on Sundays you we always dressed smartly when going to the pub; even when we went to nightclubs you had to wear a suit. Everybody made an effort and everybody dressed up. To me it was normal and a part of what we did, so it wasn’t anything different. Special thanks to Simon Parr of Gibson London.
