PLEASE SHARE: Bastian, Virginia Murders On the morning of September 14th, 1983 Steven Shinault and Darren Walker opened the Exxon Station near Exit 58 of I-77 in Bastian Virginia…a routine they had followed since the station opened the previous July. By all accounts the morning was normal…until about 10:30am. At that time a vendor arrived at the station on his normal route and found no one on duty. Fearful for the lives of the two employees he summoned law enforcement. A short time later, Steven Shinault and Darren Walker were found on the floor of a utility closet in the rear section of the station. The scene was a grizzly one…better suited to a B-Reel slasher film. Both men had died as the result of gunshot wounds to the head. No eye or ear witnesses could be located and the case has been cold for nearly 37 years. LAW ENFORCEMENT: Virginia State Police.
