For Japanese companies, the ideal worker has always been the Japanese male – a Japanese-speaking employee who is fully committed to his job and willing to work long hours because he has no obligations at home. But with globalization, the working population is becoming more diversified. Now, Japanese firms in turn must learn to adapt to the changing labor supply. Achieving true globalization requires that the firms move away from the traditional ideal worker norm, and move closer to foreign workers.
