Hello dolls, 🌼 and welcome to: The untold stories of the Women of Led Zeppelin! This is the third part of my series about the women behind famous bands and after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones Led Zeppelin was by far the most requested part three! So buckle up, this one is gonna be wild! Behind the myth of Led Zeppelin - the private jets, the thunderous riffs, the storm of sex and excess - lies another story. A story told in the shadows of hotel corridors, quiet kitchens, and whispered memories. This is the untold tale of the women who shaped, endured, and inspired the band’s legend. From the late 1960s through the 1970s, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones soared to unprecedented fame. But standing just behind the curtain were women whose lives were deeply entwined with theirs. There was Maureen Wilson, Robert Plant’s first wife, who supported him when he had nothing and became the muse for “Thank You.” She stood by him through devastating tragedy, including the loss of their young son Karac - a grief immortalized in “All My Love.” Pat Bonham, John’s childhood sweetheart, built a home and raised their children while Bonzo’s drumming shook the world. When he died in 1980, she was left to hold the family together. Maureen "Mo” Jones gave quiet strength to John Paul Jones, offering stability amid the chaos of relentless touring, helping him keep one foot grounded in family life even as the band conquered the world. Then there was Charlotte Martin, the ethereal French model who captured Jimmy Page’s heart at the dawn of the 1970s. She offered him a rare sense of domesticity and became the mother of his daughter Scarlet, quietly shaping a side of the guitarist few ever saw. Before Page, she’d moved through the same bohemian London muse circles as Pattie Boyd and Eric Clapton - a figure at the heart of the era’s tangled love stories. But not all of Zeppelin’s muses were wives or long-term partners. In Los Angeles, a new breed of teenage "baby groupies” ruled the Sunset Strip. Lori Maddox, barely 14, became involved in a secret relationship with Jimmy Page, smuggled on tour to avoid scandal. Sable Starr, the self-proclaimed queen of the Strip, bragged of her encounters with rock’s biggest names, while Pamela Des Barres proudly called herself a muse, chronicling the wild world of groupie culture in her memoir I’m With the Band. Robert Plant himself immortalized these girls in the 1975 song “Sick Again,” reflecting on how quickly innocence was lost in the glare of fame. These women lived through the ecstasy and the devastation: Maureen Plant’s near-fatal car crash in 1975, the tragic death of Karac in 1977, Bonham’s sudden passing in 1980, and the eventual unraveling of marriages under the weight of fame. Some, like Pamela, reclaimed their narratives. Others, like Sable, faded into history. And some, like Maureen and Pat, remained quietly steadfast, their strength felt long after the spotlight dimmed. They were more than just partners - they were muses, anchors, and witnesses to history. Their presence can be heard in Zeppelin’s songs, seen in the band’s mythology, and felt in their enduring legacy. From the quiet strength of wives holding down the home front to the daring spirit of the Sunset Strip muses, these women shaped the story of Led Zeppelin from behind the scenes, their influence woven through the music like a golden thread.
