Edward “Ed” Tessaro, a man of wisdom, resilience, and deep generosity, passed away peacefully after a 16-year battle with ALS on March 7th, 2025. Though the disease challenged his body, it never touched his sharp mind, wit, or unwavering spirit. A University of Dayton graduate, Ed began his career in service, commanding a missile-training battalion as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Defense Corps. He went on to a distinguished career in retail, holding executive roles with Sears, May Company, and Federated Department Stores (Rich’s/Macy’s), leading operations across multiple states. After retiring in 2003, he dedicated himself to advocacy, serving on the Windward Community Services Board and co-chairing the MDA Night of Hope Gala, which has raised over $7.3 million for ALS research. In 2010, he was among the first 30 patients in the U.S. to participate in a groundbreaking ALS stem cell trial. Ed never let ALS define him. He embraced life with intellectual curiosity, humor, and a love of adventure. He was an avid traveler, mountain climber, photographer, and fierce advocate for the causes he believed in. Above all, he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Judy, and a proud father. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Tessaro and her wife, Nancy Levenson Tessaro, and their two daughters, Rielly and Ada Tessaro, as well as his son, Jordan Tessaro, and his wife, Katie Bricker Tessaro. Ed believed that gratitude was the highest form of thought. His life was a testament to that belief—filled with love, purpose, and an unshakable commitment to making the world better. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Emory ALS Clinic in his honor. His legacy of courage and kindness will live on in the many lives he touched. https://one.bidpal.net/atlantanightof...
