Barbate is a Spanish municipality in the province of Cádiz (Andalusia). It is located at the mouth of the Barbate River, on the coast near Cape Trafalgar. Barbate lives mainly from tourism, highlighting Zahara de los Atunes and Los Caños de Meca as important tourist centers. It has 43 hotels from 1-4 stars. Zahara de los Atunes is a village (a local autonomous entity of Barbate) on the Costa de la Luz, right next to Barbate. The climate of Zahara is the oceanic Mediterranean of the Atlantic coast. This is characterized by having mild winters, whose temperatures are always above 10º, and temperate summers, which register average temperatures around 25º. Zahara de los Atunes has become one of the most important places in Andalusia in terms of coastal tourism, due to its good climate, its beaches and its nightlife. The Zahar coastlin , about 1,600 meters long, extends from Zahara to Cape Plata. The seawater in this area is characterized by being a mass of water with marked oligotrophy, high transparency, well oxygenated and with efficient mixing phenomena.
