An old fashioned kind of story telling in this short video from me. Showing why it is today's detectorists find lead ampullas , all over UK farm land. This is the story of just how and why a sleepy Saxon settlement in Norfolk became one of the 4 most important shrine sites in Christendom . Even today this beautiful Norfolk village , rich in history, plays host to over a quarter of a million pilgrims every year. Walsingham is a 15 minute car ride away from where I live, and last week we took a ride out to spend a day there. It is beautiful. I saw barefoot pilgrims walking the mile to the Slipper chapel, in the searing heat. The thought of the hot tarmac road under their feet...ouch ! I took a couple of my ampullas along with me. Both of which I found many miles from the shrine site, one was south of Norwich.
