Today I'm comparing the Martin HD-28 ($3,000) to the Epiphone DR-100 ($140) to find out if the HD28 is really worth 20 times the price of the DR100. Both instruments are about as similar as you can get when you consider the price gap between them. They're both dreadnaught sized acoustics with the same scale length and they have both just been set up with identical string sets - D'Addario Phosphor Bronze 13 gauge. In this video, I'll be playing through a few samples using the same pick, position, microphone, and placement so I can isolate as many differences as possible and we can consider the actual tonal difference between a $3,000 pro-grade instrument and a $140 student model. By no means is this supposed to be a "which guitar is better comparison." Instead, it's a look at some of the differences between a guitar that has stood the test of time and is probably considered the standard to which other dreadnaught acoustics are compared, to an entry-level guitar.
