Box Game with the Fire Litter (Full Training Clips)

Kiwi x Maverick’s “Fire Litter” playing day 2 of the Box Game I have had some requests for longer videos of individual puppies, so I decided to just include the entire clip from today’s training sessions rather than the usual little highlights. Since this is a much longer video, I will include time stamps below so that you can easily scrub ahead to your puppy. The Box Game is an important step in starting to develop an operant dog (one that wants to work with you). In this activity, we produce a novel stationary object, in this case a small box, and reward anytime the puppy interacts with it. Ideally the puppy will step in the box, but it is not a requirement and any interaction (even accidental) will get a reward. Up to this point, the pups have not had to work for treats and attention. Now, we are instilling the idea that they can offer a behaviour beyond just being cute and get rewarded for it. This is the second time that the puppies have played this game, and we will be moving on to something new for their next session as everyone did SOOO well today. The criteria to get a reward may be slightly different for each puppy- some may get a click for an accidental touch, others I may hold out for all 4 paws in the box, and a few I wait for a bum on the ground and eyes on me. This is more than I usually ask for in this game, but these puppies caught on so quickly, it was time to up the anti a little bit!
