ABOUT In the fifties, the expressive tenor voice of Beny Moré (1919-1963) dominated the airwaves of the CMQ radio station in Havana. This was due both to his voice and to the musicians in his Banda Gigante. Whether it was genres like son, mambo, guaracha or bolero, Moré’s band was master of them all; he was known as 'El Bárbaro del Ritmo' for good reason. Young bandleader and pianist Luis Guerra (1983) sees it as his task to reawaken awareness of this music. To achieve this, Guerra, who is mainly active on the Spanish jazz scene, has brought together no fewer than seventeen Cuban and Spanish musicians in the CMQ Big Band. Cuban bassist Alain Pérez (1977) plays an important role. He also works in Spain and has played with Irakere, Paco de Lucia, Paquito de Rivera and Celia Cruz, among others.
