RCMP in Drayton Valley have arrested a 19-year-old man after a dangerous pursuit that spanned fields, rural properties, and residential neighbourhoods. Police say the chase began on Nov. 19 near Tomahawk, when rural crime patrols spotted a suspicious man riding an ATV with a bag. When officers attempted a traffic stop, he fled, triggering a coordinated pursuit involving multiple RCMP units, Air Services, and the Real Time Operations Centre. The helicopter tracked the suspect across open fields and private land, and officers say he even attempted to enter a rural home before speeding into Drayton Valley. He later abandoned the stolen ATV and tried to run through residential areas on 43 Street before being arrested. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. No members of the public were hurt. One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest. Kaylin Hunter, 19, of Lac Ste. Anne County, now faces 18 charges, including flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, possession of break-and-enter tools, possession of a prohibited firearm, and multiple breaches of court orders. He is also charged in connection with a similar pursuit on Nov. 4. Hunter remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Dec. 2. RCMP say the arrest highlights the teamwork between frontline officers, Air Services, Police Dog Services, nearby detachments, and residents who assisted during the chase.
