(17 Aug 1959) The first group of the U.S. air forces planes involved in the three nation switch of location arrived at the Royal Air Force base at Alconbury near Peterborough, Northants on 15th August. The RB 66 jet photo reconnaissance planes which arrived were part of the U.S.A.F. 10th tactical reconnaissance wing at Spangdahlen in W. Germany. Seventeen hundred U.S.A.F. personnel are involved in the whole move, which involves the transfer of some units from France to England, others from France to Germany and still others from Germany to England. The transfers were decided upon following a deadlock on the stock piling of nuclear weapons on French soil. Less than half a dozen planes were involved in the move on Aug. 15th. Col. James D. Kemp (USAF) was welcomed by Col. Henry S.Taylor.
