The Exclusivity of God

On Sunday at Flint River Primitive Baptist Church, we began a new series addressing a growing movement within Christianity often associated with the “Unseen Realm” teaching. At the heart of this discussion is a simple but foundational truth: there is only one true and living God. In this message, we examine claims that God rules over a council of lesser divine beings - also called elohim (Hebrew for god) and compare those ideas with the clear testimony of Scripture. From Isaiah’s bold declarations that there were no gods before Jehovah and none formed after Him, to Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians that “there is none other God but one,” the Bible leaves no room for confusion. We also look closely at Psalm 82—often presented as the cornerstone of this theology—and consider how the Lord Jesus Christ Himself interprets that passage in John 10. Rather than appealing to ancient pagan sources to understand God, we let Scripture interpret Scripture. Jesus prayed in John 17 that we might know “the only true God.” That knowledge is not mystical, speculative, or conspiratorial. It is revealed, clear, and life-giving.
