The Research Communication course provided by the Centre for Thinking, Language and Communication at Plaksha University equips undergraduate engineering students with the foundational skills, methods, and processes essential for academic research writing. Throughout the course, students learn to identify research problem statements, develop focused research themes, design structured research projects, apply appropriate research methodologies, conduct rigorous literature reviews, and ultimately produce a complete research manuscript. Students may choose their research theme from one of three pathways: 1. Develop a conceptual or theoretical research paper 2. Build a manuscript based on a previous intervention or course project 3. Design a brand-new research project around a topic of personal academic interest. The course is structured into two key components: workshops and tutorials. The workshop component provides students with the theoretical foundations required to write a full-length research paper. These sessions focus on understanding research design, academic structure, methodology selection, literature integration, and scholarly writing conventions. The second component emphasizes application. During this phase, students actively apply the research skills they have acquired to develop their manuscripts. Each research group is supported by both a technical mentor and a non-technical (communication) mentor who guide them through the writing, structuring, analysis, and refinement of their paper. The course culminates in the development of a complete research manuscript that adheres to established academic conventions and engineering writing standards. Selected student papers may qualify for submission to domestic or international conferences, subject to quality benchmarks and review criteria.
