Mariusz Szypura – Chopin Residue – Lathe-Cut Session I - Documentation

A documentation of Mariusz Szypura’s sound performance, presented at Bunkier Sztuki on April 14–16, 2025. The artist performed a live vinyl-cutting session, creating records in real time using a lathe. Open to the public and fully recorded, the process generated both sound and physical residue: thread-like waste produced from cutting nine records per track — 81 in total. These threads, negatives of the vinyl groove, represent the “antisound” of the recordings. They will form the basis for a cycle of nine large-format works titled Chopin Residue: Nonaptych.
