A decent 9 miler undertaken on a very pleasant winter afternoon in Berkshire. The sun shone, for the most part, and there was a pleasant south-westerly breeze to keep the temperature reasonable. The initial walking was past retail and residential areas of Maidenhead before joining the Thames at Guards' Club park, near Brunel's famous wide-span, brick arch rail bridge. The walk then follows the Thames Path National Trail to Cookham, passing Boulter's Lock and with the National Trust's Cliveden Estate on the far bank. Lunch was had in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church, Cookham, though several pub options also exist. Thereafter, the walker ascends the aptly named 'Winter Hill' for some fine views of the Thames Valley before descending through a wooded section to the flood tunnels under the busy A404. Marlow's famous suspension bridge arrives shortly afterwards and then the station. Good paths today, with little mud/water. There's some traffic noise at various places and, being close to Heathrow, jet noise can be heard, though it isn't too bad.
