In the Philippines, there are millions of registered drivers and cars driving around the country. This is because of the high demand for automobiles that signify one’s class and economic status. Lately though, there have been more and more reports and demands for recalls of automobiles that are otherwise classified as “lemons.” A lemon is a term used to describe a car – old or new, that is defective. Thus the introduction of the Lemon Law which was passed last July 15 by President Aquino and it will take effect on August 7. Presently, the Department of Trade and Industry is crafting the Implementing Rules and Regulations or IRR, until then Attorneys Karen Jimeno (and Rod Nepomuceno) will discuss the Lemon Law with a representative from DTI and a representative from a car manufacturer to get their take on the newly passed law.
