http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org I am a nurse. I am a nurse. A teacher. A leader. A shoulder to cry on. Committed. Lifesaver. Family centered. Honest. Loving. A professional. A hero. I am a nurse. My name is Anita, and I'm a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit. I got a job in nursing school, the PCA, just to help bolster me getting a job when I became a nurse. But, also Cincinnati Children's offers tuition reimbursement, which is something that I wish I had known sooner. PICU, especially at Cincinnati Children's, is anything that is not a heart issue or, you know, a NICU premature infant. Anything happens in the PICU. The reality is I meet people on probably the worst day of their lives, right? So, they're in a car accident and now they're here. I can't go back in time and make the car accident not happen, but now you're here, I can make this day better. I can explain well what we're doing and why we're doing it. I can explain how we're making your child better and that's what I really like. I think anyone can be an ICU nurse, you just have to be flexible and really just embrace that. There could be a trauma that comes in. There could be a full arrest that comes in. There could be a full arrest on the floor. You just have to be OK with that or like it, like I love it, not knowing what's going to happen next. I love the versatility of nursing. You can be any kind of nurse. Any, you know, a school health nurse, a nurse at a company, and just even in the hospital, there's so many different kinds of nursing. I think that's what really appealed to me. I think one of the things that we have here are, you know, people that really like their jobs, people that really care. I think, as an institution, we have tons and tons and tons of resources at our disposal. Cincinnati Children's really wants the bedside nurse to be empowered and to know that they have a voice and that their voice matters, so we have shared governance and we have unit level councils to help embrace that voice of the bedside nurse. I feel like most of my days are good days. I really do, I'm not saying that to be a cliche. I like my co-workers. I like the hospital. Most of my days are good days. My name is Anita, and I am a nurse.
