In the early 90s, ELGi decided to focus on Air Compressors and Automotive equipment business and sold or shut down its eight other businesses at that time. The Indian market for air compressors was small, and to compete with the international players getting into the Indian market and staying relevant and competitive in India, ELGi had to invest a lot, and the Indian market was not big enough. So, logically, ELGi focussed on building a global enterprise, and that’s how ELGi’s journey started. The journey of building a global enterprise started with building the backend, such as #technology, #quality, #manufacturing, #talent, and #efficiency, and it took almost two decades to reach that stature. Then ELGi started to build markets outside India and looked at very focused markets such as #North America, #Europe, #Australia, and countries in #Southeastasia. To be a global player, ELGi focused on being in the market to provide local support and build local relationships, and that’s the genesis of ELGi’s presence in Europe.
